Companion Plants-Basil
This year, we’re exploring companion planting in the garden! Read on to learn about why we’re planting basil with tomatoes, potatoes, beans, and peppers.
Many pests such as flies, mosquitoes, aphids, white flies, beetles, and even hornworms don’t like the way basil smells. Basil also enhances the flavor of tomatoes and peppers when grown together.
The few plants that basil doesn’t like growing with are fennel and rue because those plants can affect basil‘s flavor and inhibit its growth. It’s best not to grow basil with cucumbers because it can affect the flavor of the cucumbers, and not with sage because they have very different water requirements.
